CONCERT REVIEW Argentinean tango and milonga mixed with electronic sounds and some Acid Jazz that are the key ingredients for a great piece of electro Tango. Otros Aires is one of those modern projects that combine original sounds from the previous millennium with delicate chosen beats, electronic sequences and melodies from the 21st century. Reminiscent to the “Gotan Project” and “Bajofondo Tango Club”, the band performed well at the Airbag Festival! Despite the fact that the words beats and electronic sequences are combined there is nothing to fear. While on CD these guys do experiment a little bit with their sounds, live they are a real band that takes classic tango music into the new era. The charismatic figure of Miguel Di Genova keeps you in trance with his voice and guitar, while Manu Mayol replace the electronic beats with sounds from his Congas and bongos. Add to that some authentic dance sounds from the Bandoneon by Omar Massa and a sparse but well played piano from the hands of Diego Ramos and the sound is complete. Not afraid to reproduce some very classical tango’s the band was able to please both young and old and although there was not enough room to dance a lot, some people really practiced their classic dancing skills! Hihglights where of course tunes like “Alerdings Otros Aires”, “Otro Puenta Alsina”, “Otro Noche a La Viruta”& “Vino”. Everything was presented as a multimedia project and while the band performed you could watch some video artwork on a big screen behind them. The latter gave it a nice touch cause many of the images came from a long time ago, giving the complete set a retro look! While the sound was perfect and the band even started on time (9 o’clock sharp) I was a bit disappointed by the fact that they only played for 60 minutes. They where called back twice but even if you count the extra songs it will not be much more of 75 minutes. A shame on you guys cause I easily could have enjoyed it for another 60 minutes.
